Ya know..it really cracks me up to read some of these posts. Always worrying about this or worrying about that. My engine has made that ticking sound since the day I rode her brand new butt of the showroom floor. Ya know what? 60,141 miles later, she still ticks and runs great. Check other things, like will it start cold? How dirty is the oil? When was it changed last? Is it at the proper level? Look at the air filter. Is it filthy? that's an indication that the bike hasn't been maintenanced much. Look at the belt. Is it cracked? Is it adjusted properly? A new belt will run you about 200.00 bucks. If the bike runs through all of the gears and idles and runs good on the freeway, then I would not worry about the ticking. My engine has always been annoyingly noisy. Just buy a loud after market pipe.
